Hi there

The Conn 70H and the 72H are pretty well known instruments. The 72H is also pretty commonly available, the 70H a little harder to come by... well.

What about the 71H? What ist the difference to the two other models?

I have a 71H and it is virtually the same as a 72H but has a different wrap. I love the way mine plays. Great bass trombone. I use a Connstellation 3B bass trombone mouthpiece that has the longer shank and Brown & Sharpe taper. It sings with this mouthpiece, as the horn was designed for this type of taper.

I'm not an expert but have an 70h, and also had an 72h before. I think the 72h and 71h are nearly the same except the wrap. The 70h have tuning in slide and that makes it different from the other two. And it is older. They all sounds good! That's for sure.

I also have a 1970s 71H, but have not seen a lot of comment about these horns on this site or TTF. I find mine a little stuffy in the low C and D region (with trigger), and I'm wondering whether it is the horn or my chops. Otherwise, I also love the sound from the horn.

I briefly owned a 71H before eventually getting my first 72H (I have two now!). The one I bought (and quickly returned) was not a great instrument. I'm sure there are good ones, but mine wasn't.

I don't know what differs in specifications except for the wrap of the valve but a Conn 71h feels smaller compared to a Conn 72h, not as broad a sound. It could be anything from the leadpipe to the bell.

I had two 72H and they were quite different from each other. My current 71H is nearly identical in every way to the 72H that I preferred, except that the 71H is better in the valve register. This shows the many variations between examples; not an uncommon thing, especially with older instruments that were produced in relatively large numbers.

One of my friends does a have a modified 71H that happens to have a pretty think bell, almost Bach thickness. That horn really does play great!

I usually seem to like 72Hs more then 71Hs though...

I believe it - would love to try/own one someday. I always liked how they looked.
