Is Mark Gaal playing this down an octave? The smirk on the second trombonist's face at 42:08 sorta confirms it.

If so, it's good to see he's having a little deviant summer pops fun. Even with the VPO. We are everywhere.

Actually, I think that's the tuba you're hearing. It's live so who knows what mic placement is like. That is SUCH a fun piece either way!

Amen on the horns. Some years ago I sat onstage about 10 feet behind the VPO horns for a performance of Don Juan. That’ll change your life! The clarity of sound and variety of articulation was stunning.
