Pleasant Surprise

I was getting ready for our normal orchestral rehearsal last night when I was collared by the principal clarinet who said that he had an 'old trombone' at home and I'm having a clear out so it's yours if you want it. I said of course I'll take it and he showed me a small photo of it in the case. The bell lacquer had seen better days bit the counterweight said 'Bach' so I thought it might be half decent.
I picked it up today and it turned out to be a Stradivarius Model 42 (the answer to the meaning of life), Serial number would indicate it was made about 1982. It needs a good clean and a wee bit of attention on the slide (minor dents). It'll go to Bryce Ferguson for a good ultrasound clean and a service and maybe a relacquer I think and I can branch out from just playing bass, The 6 1/2 AL mouthpiece can go for a clean and maybe replate too,
Not bad for a freebie !
