Vibration while using f valve

Post by TromboneWithDean »

Hi everyone. First post here, and it's about my new shires Q-series bass with axials. I literally got it 3 days ago, its that new. I love it so far, and I love how it plays and resonates, but whenever i use the f valve, it will cause a vibration. I've done some testing, and I've come to the conclusion that the cause is from the linkage. The lever is fine, but the linkage connecting the lever to the Thayer has a lot of movement. Not in the ball bearings though. It can just move side to side, and when it is held, it stops the vibrating. I'd include a picture but I don't know how too.

I've checked each slide brace nut as well, and as far as I could tell, it was not them.

Anyways, does anyone know how I could stop the vibrating? This is the first horn I've owned with thayers, so it's definitely outside of my knowledge right now. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

I also dont have access to a tech at the moment, but I will be travelling to another city in October, so I can get it looked at there too if needed (I hope not).

It sounds like the shorter arm connecting the lever arm to the top of the valve. Try putting tuning slide gel (something of a heavier viscosity) on the mini balls at either end of that linkage. Getting some heavier oil into the miniball casing should help deaden any vibration.
