King 3B+

Post by DeanDZiegler »

Hi Folks. I'm new to this forum. I'm thinking of selling a King Tenor Trombone, model 3B+ (according to two helpful respondents who replied to my first post about identifying the instrument). We bought it for our son back in 1996 but (sadly, cuz he was quite good for a high-school kid) he never played it again after his Senior Hi jazz band days. We've had it at our place because he told us years ago to sell it and get what we could out of it. I couldn't do it - hoping, I suppose, that he might one day decide to pick it up again. Not gonna happen, we think. The horn has 2125 on the bell but no other markings. The two respondents both replied that it is a 3B+ with a .525 bore.

I played years and years ago but sold any Elkhart Conn with F attachment to PA's Allegheny College music Department and bought myself a good camera. I did, however, get our son's little King horn out last week to blew a few notes on it just to see if I could. It was surprisingly easy (OK, for about 30 seconds), given that I'd not really played since my own college days, and not AT ALL for about 25 years. Wow! Even my flabby 75 yr-old lips got a surprisingly mellow tone out of it. I loved how it sounded.

I gather there are folks on this forum from all over. Is there anybody out there reasonably close to the Pittsburgh end of PA who might be interested in such a horn? The slide is very smooth, the tuning slide moved easily enough, and apart from a couple small pea-sized dings about a foot up from the bell flare, it has no other blemishes that I could see on a quick look-over. For being left in its case untouched for about 26 years that's not bad, I figure.

You’ll need one more post before you can post images, see/post to the classifieds, and PM/email users but you’ll definitely find interest. I’d actually be interested myself, I have a few King in that orbit and wouldn’t mind having the 525 bore slode for them for sure and Pittsburgh is a hop and a skip away from where I live
