I ordered a Stephens bass trombone

Subject line says it...I had an afternoon off from teaching at Kinhaven today and went to visit Steve Shires to try bass trombone #2, which he just completed (at least to the point that it's playable - some final fitting to do and then lacquer). I loved it, especially when swapping for the slightly lighter bell owned by TromboneChat member Tim Foley, who came by to say hi and make his Stephens bass trombone #1 available for comparison (Thanks Tim!). It sounds glorious and is easier to play than either my current Greenhoe/Bach setup or the Shires I was playing previously.

Lucky man. A colleague showed up with a Stephens tenor recently. Very nice.

How did Steve's valves play when doubled up? (I'm assuming it was two of his new valve inline?)

Exciting!!!

Yes, double inline. They play fantastically well - easy to center the pitch, extremely fluid and continuous feel between valve combinations and the open horn.

As one would expect of Steve.
