Larry Wiehe's daughter set this page and I thought I would share it for those who might be interested. I was fortunate to live in Larry's hometown when he retired from his extensive career. He offered trombone lessons to those of us who knew about him and would practice! If memory serves me correctly, he only charged me $5 per lesson. I was in Jr. High and it was in the mid-1980s.

Larry was my first private teacher (around 1971 or 1972). I was/am a trumpet player, but my father didn't want to drive me the extra 10 minutes to Chuck Erwin's house, so I spent a year studying with Larry. He was a wonderful man, and helped get me started on trumpet. Like you, I think it was $5 per lesson. A year or two later we moved closer to Oxon Hill, so I moved over to Chuck Erwin. And a few years after that I started with Doc Reinhardt who got me to double on trombone, so I can make myself an honorary member here.

I later met his daughter Lynn (or maybe it was Lisa?) at Prince Georges County Youth Orchestra and carpooled with her to rehearsals. Unfortunately I haven't been in touch with her since high school.

It was only much later in life that I learned what an absolute legend Larry was. When you're just a kid you don't recognize what sets people like that apart. (At least I didn't .)
