Hi. I'm doing a little project, and I'd like your input.

What tunes do you think are most iconic or most associated with the following trombonists? Bonus points if you can link the recording you're referring to.

Tommy Dorsey (I assume this one's gonna be "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You")
Dick Nash
JJ Johnson
Wayne Henderson
Urbie Green
Bill Watrous
Frank Rosolino

I'm trying to figure out which tunes trombonists would instantly associate with each of those players. Whatcha got? :)

JJ's "Satin Doll" from The Trombone Master album was one of the first solos I transcribed when I was first starting to learn to play jazz.

For Rosolino, I’d add some of the tracks on his album Jazz à Confronto, like Waltz for Roma (an Italian collaboration). https://www.discogs.com/release/3871416 ... onfronto-4

The track Misty on his Last Recording album is also a worthwhile contender: https://www.discogs.com/release/8853790 ... -Recording

Just curious about the project: there’s a bunch of other jazz trombonists in different styles from that era, like Jimmy Knepper, Curtis Fuller, etc. Just wondering why those particular trombonists?

JJ....

Laura! His lyricism, melody, technique, all on one track. My favorite.

I wish this forum had a "like" button so I could recognize everyone's posts.

I'd rather not reveal the scope or purpose of the project until I get more data. Sorry for being mysterious. I promise the reveal will be disappointing in its pedestrian purpose. LOL!

Wayne Henderson was such a great musician. It`s too bad that his name doesn`t come up more often when talking about Great Trombonists
