Could the G actually be 6?

6H 870xxx = Conn 6H from 1960

G is 1970s
H is 8th month (August)
8 is 8th year of decade (1978)

So this slide dates to August, 1978

Man - I have another confusing Serial number here: For a Conn 8HRT - SN: 277177 ???

Makes no sense, the photos look like a really new horn. But the list after 1987 is a bit vague. From the appearance, I am guessing the horn in question is post 2000AD. Like a very recent model.

Well, I asked the seller and they assured me, "You cannot go wrong with the cereal."

Ah, well then... that settles it I guess. lol

With dissapointment, I found that my pre-war 70H (non-Fuchs) slide does not fit a post-war 70H bell.

So, I still dont get how to calculate a late model serial# with this chart. How does it possibly work with a number like "277177" ? The seller says they think it was made between 2005-2010.

Is there no list of serial numbers from 2000-2023?

Newer Conn serial numbers have a 2 digit prefix. Add 50 to the prefix and you get the year.

Nope. 6 digit number with a 2 digit prefix. Maybe 52 277177

Ah, thanks for the info. Appreciate it. Seems the folks with the horn for sale either don't know how, or don't want to give me the entire serial number. It is an 8HRT... they keep sending these 6 numbers: 277177

They do claim to have a notion though that it was produced sometime between 2000-2010.

So, anyone know when the HRT (thin bell) 8H/88H model first appeared in production?

And so, if it is a horn built in the 2000's from Conn, are these worth even considering? I mean I hear lot about how materials and construction quality at Conn have come and gone over the years. My alternative would be classic Elkhart 8H from the 1950's or 1960's, but with the standard thick bell.

I know it is all subjective, just curious if anyone has any thoughts (other than "shut-up and play").
