Vernon, Singing Approach (1995)
I was playing through this the other day. Does anybody have any tips or insights into how to approach this book? Just work through the exercises?

Yup. The newer version is a little better, IMO, but it's all great stuff when approached the right way.

One or two a day, at most. These are great exercises to take apart and observe the beginning, middle, and end of each note, as well as the connections between notes. Then put it all pack together.
