FS Rath R9 Bass Trombone- Dual Independent Hagmanns- 3 years old- Gorgeous

For Sale
My own Rath R9 Custom series Bass Trombone - My main bass for the last 3 years
I bought this from Mick Rath at a convention- He personally helped me find my perfect component combination
9 1/2 inch Rose Brass Bell 750R
Dual Independent Hagmann Valves with Heavy caps
Horn plays in Bb F Db Gb and D
Dual bore .562 / .578 Slide

It is in "all but new" condition- I have used it for three concerts a year with 8 services for each and maybe another hour each week of practice. I am a tenor trombonist that doubles on bass. Should be less than 200 hours of playing on this horn. I have always used leather grips so their is no coantact wear. Slide is perfect as should be any well cared for Rath- I use Ultra Pure so no SOM buildup. Valves have been professionally cleaned twice, including last month.
I found one tiny ding on the bell- probably from a darned mute. It is a gorgeous horn- pics:

So why am I selling? This was by far the best bass trombone I have ever played, noticed by my conductor who sent college students to my home to decide on buying Raths- they did. However, I just found another Rath R9 - same bell- with a dependent Hagmann valve setup that seems to fit me better. I have owned and played Edwards, Shires, and now Rath- I have a Rath R2 jazz horn, a Rath R4 large tenor and Rath R9 bass. I am convinced they are as good as it gets for a trombonist.

Comes with an Edwards case- movable pads and backstraps. Sorry no Mouthpiece- If you are getting this custom horn you should audition a mouthpiece to fit your playing. I use a Giddings and Webster piece.

One note. I kept my shorter more open leadpipe and included a longer one that came with the other horn (from a better bass trombonist). Leadpipes make a HUGE difference. I would encourage you to contact Rath or Dillons and discuss and possibly audition a couple pipes as well- they are not very expensive.

Current price at Dillons for a R9 with Hagmanns starts at $6700 and does not include a case, dual bore slide or heavy caps. I am going to ask a firm $4500 but will include shipping to the lower 48 states at no charge and elsewhere with a credit of $75 toward shipping. Paypal works for me
