How I fixed Cool Wind slide air leak

(1) Using BonAmi scouring powder, I GENTLY wiped down the fiberglass inner slides
(2) I carefully cut two strips of red sheathing tape. The tape is about 2" wide and my strips were just long enough to wrap around each tube with a tiny bit of overlap. This tape sticks well!
(3) I applied Slide-o-mix and then wiped most of it off
(4) I keep the slide sparingly damp with Dunlop Formula 65 Guitar Polish/Cleaner
No guarantee, but it has worked for me. Best wishes.

I made similar "stockings" with clear package tape. You don't want to create too thick a stocking -- maybe 25-50 microns or so. I placed two strips of tape with the seams offset since I had to trim the tape to not have any overlap and thus had a slight gap between ends.
At some point during my heavy use period the tape began to shred and I had to remove it and replace.
I now understand why the pBone has the copper "stocking". Lasts much longer.

OK…..I’m trying to grasp this thread. Please understand that I have never held a Cool Wind trombone in my hand…….but I do own a P-bone.
Are you stating that the Cool Wind trombones DO NOT have stockings on the inner slides? If so, that’s not very “Cool!”

That was exactly how mine came. And the clearance between inner and outer slides was kinda small. Guess they thought the close fit would obviate the need for stockings. But it was too loose to really seal and too tight to put in some kind of real stocking.
I wish there was a better plastic trombone with an F-attachment, but I haven't found one.

Never realized that…..very strange. I probably would have noticed it within 10-15 seconds if I ever played one.
