What is the W7 designation on a Bach 16M?

I see a horn for sale labeled as a Bach LT16MGW7.

The LT means the lightweight slide. The M means the .509 bore. The G means gold brass bell. What the heck does the W7 mean?

Thanks. :)

The M does not refer to the slide bore. It refers to the open gooseneck. Even though I have only seen the “M” option on the 16 and 42 models, I imagine that the option could be available for other Bachs.

I have Bach 42GHM that was made in the 1990s. It is a beast.

It is possible to have a Bach 16M with the regular (smaller) dual bore slide. Just switch the slides. That combination should play slightly more open than the standard Bach 16 because of the open gooseneck. However, it would not be as open as the regular Bach 16M which normally comes with the straight .509 slide.

The horn I am seeing listed as the "Bach LT16MGW7" also lists "7-1/2" one-piece hand-hammered yellow brass bell" in the description. The W7 may not mean anything.

Except, in the case of the 16M, it does.

Slides marked '16' are .495/.509 dual bore. Slides marked '16M' are straight .509

Absolutely. However the bell designation “M” refers to the open gooseneck. Technically, you can put numerous Bach slides the 16 and 16M bells. I think slides for models 6, 8, 12, 34 and 36 all fit on both bells.

I am still interested in the original question…..what is W-7? I have never seen that on a bell or a slide. Sounds like an abbreviation that the seller is using to describe something about the horn.

This is the only hit I can find about it anywhere: https://reverb.com/item/67643239-bach-l ... ne-no-case

Normally I would assume the seller knows, but they seem to have 4000 or so products listed, so they may just be a warehouse.

I'm pretty sure it's a factory code for "no case", as opposed to the usual instrument/case/mouthpiece package - at one point Quinn listed a group of caseless Bachs and W# was on all the descriptions

e.g. https://reverb.com/item/50562948-bach-m ... 2-open-box
https://reverb.com/item/67631885-bach-l ... ow-no-case
... "no case" is the shared characteristic

Ah! I think you've figured it out! Good detective work. It was the butler, in the parlor, with the candlestick! :)
