Selmer Signet Silver

Hey folks,
I'm new here. I have recently returned to playing trombone in a community band after a long hiatus. I played in high-school and then in the symphonic wind and string ensemble in college. After college, I played a bit in a church orchestra but stopped playing in the early 2000's. In 2019, my son and I joined the local community band for a season. Then COVID. Now, I am back to playing. What I currently have is a really beat up Bundy (no idea what model). I'd like to get something a bit better but, also realize that I'm not in a position to jump up to a professional level horn. And probably not an intermediate horn either.

I have the opportunity to buy a Selmer Signet Silver. I don't see much on this forum regarding those horns. I don't anticipate playing much beyond this community band. But, I'd like a horn that I don't feel like I'm fighting. Might this be a good option for me?

Quite a few different types of Signets out there. Have you had a chance to play it? Does this one have an F attachment? For a community band I prefer either medium or large bore tenors. Many versions of the Signet were small bore.

I played a silver Signet cornet for a decade in small community bands. It was serviceable and worked but was clearly a student level horn. Same with a lot of the trombone models though there is one that is an excellent jazz horn but has "S" shaped brace. For a run of the mill straight horn I'd pay around $100.

Best to try as many different horns as possible and see how they respond. I neglected King horns for a long time but found I really love the 607F / 608F. (difference is bell, 608 has more copper in the brass and a little more mellow IMO).

Yamaha 354s are a nice horn and can be readily found for under $300 and I believe they are much better horns then the Selmer.

Good suggestion. If you can get (and know how to play) an F-attachment, even better.
