King 3B slide question

I have a 3B valve horn (gold brass lacquer finish) and would like to add a slide (the case already has a pocket for one). I’m thinking about picking up a $50 606, which will probably have some slide issues, and taking the slide straight to a good tech for alignment and ding removal. Does this make sense, or should I try to focus on finding a used 3B slide? What’s the difference? Pros and cons?

I'm not sure if the 606 fits.

The consensus here seems to be that it does. Probably won’t know for sure until I try.

Aidan, I saw on your YouTube video that you have a 3B bell that you’d added a slide to- what did you use?

I've only used 3B slides myself.

If the consensus here is that 606 fits, you'll be fine!

I've never done this myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'm sure the build quality won't be as good since the 606 is a beginner horn and the 3b is a pro horn, but if you're just trying to play on that bell I think that's a good idea for now.

Yes. A 606 slide on a 3B bell does work. I just tried it.

The 606 slide, as you probably, know has a brass outer slide and is .500 bore, the same as the valve section I believe.

For case fitment my 606 slide is 11/16'' shorter (at 31 1/4'') than my 3B slide.

Steve🙂.

I’ve had luck with a Super Tempo 1506 model. The slide is interchangeable with a 3B bell section. The .500 slide from the 1506 is cool on the 3B bell, makes for easier lead sound.

Older King horns were all built pretty well. I don’t notice much of a difference. If you can find a mint one for a decent price, I’d say it’s worth trying.

Problem solved- found a like new 606 this afternoon and bought it for $200. No slide repairs needed, and it’s a PERFECT fit. The horn plays and sounds great. Thanks for the input, guys. Now I have a 606 bell to sell 🤣

I actually had thought about a Tempo earlier. Thanks.
