Decided to get a "stealth" 3B and got a King 607F. Horn was from an antique store and came in a nice case, just not the right case. The slide and valve were stiff. The slide due to caked slide cream and the valve just wanted oil. Pulled all slides and lubed them. There was little evidence this horn had been played at all. The main slide bore was almost pristine.
Put it back together and it plays great. Can't wait to use it with a big band.

I really like my 607F. Very underrated horn. Plays a little better than a 3BF I had in comparison. Now mine is a 500/525 dual bore.

I love my 607! It plays just as well as my '70s 3B and 3BF, and if you know one of them you know the other. The 607 has a fatter sound and more open low register, in exchange for a high register that takes a bit more work than the 3B/3BF. Killer pit horn, but its secret weapon is how well it records. It just works, with no effort, in almost any style. Truthfully, when I bought it I didn't think I would use it that much. I was wrong!
It's kind of made me want to try a 4B...

First impressions. Boy the slide is NARROW compared to my Shires Q. Almost felt like a toy when I first picked it up after playing the Shires. It's a much easier blow than my 0.547 and doesn't lose anything on the low notes either. Love the King trigger behind the bell brace.
Lots of fun but need to get a set of mutes for it--I'd have to sand too much cork off my regular mutes to get them to seat right but they'll be here before our practice.
Glad I listened to Aiden and others about this horn, I love it.

M/K drawing offers a pretty cool selection of crooks. I have a 500 upper so I elected for a .515 ID crook in nickel, but they have ones with larger ID. The smaller bore and the nickel crook give it just a little extra zing, but not too much, like I experience with the smaller pro models w/ nickel slides.
