Snagged this 1920's King today.
Never dealt with the high pitch/low pitch tuning slides before. Should be interesting.
Looking forward to its arrival this week.

Use the low pitch slide. High pitch isn't a thing anymore.

I have a Vega (made in Boston) with high and low pitch slides. Since I prefer to play extended positions, I have used the high pitch tuning slide and I think it plays better that way.

My complaint is how to hold that double brace. I have a pair of these: one High Pitch and one Low Pitch. I found the complete low pitch setup was too flat to play. Mixing one High Pitch part with one Low Pitch part worked better.

Arrived today and it plays nicely. The double brace is not an issue for me.

With the larger tuning slide (low pitch?) it plays right on the money according to my tuner.

Haven't been able to nail down which model it is based on:
Only King and HN White on the bell.
Serial number puts it around 1925.
Says "medium bore" on the receiver.
And the slide is single bore.

Been scouring the HN White page for answers but still not sure.

Looking at a 1924 King catalog, it looks like "medium bore" equates to the 1106 "Utility" model on page 30.

The bell is 6.5" diamiter so I think that makes it a "Solo" #1100 model, but it has both low/high pitch tuning slides and is gold plated. Still not sure.

Ah, it probably is the Solo then (which also was available with HP/LP slides). As it is bell tuning, it would be the 1101.

I was looking at the HN White page but the one you linked has much more information.
I didn't find a model with a gold plated finish.

What's the best way to clean/polish a gold plated horn?

My sense is that since it is plated only and there is no clue as to how thick the plating actually is, don't use anything with any kind of abrasive polishing agent, no matter how fine it might be. As odd as this might sound I think a light spraying and wipe down with pledge polish would make it shine right up, remove spots and blemishes and do no harm to the plating. Just guessing there. Others may have better ideas.
