Maybe this has been discussed before, in which case I’ve missed it: which medium bore (≈.522/.525) trombones are compatible, as in slides matching another brand’s bell section? I’m interested both in vintage and modern pairings.
Thank you!

Re: Medium bore compatibility
Hmm. Basically none that I can think of.
Bach 34 and 36.
Shires and Edwards, kind of.
Dunno what connectors the medium Getzens used.

Re: Medium bore compatibility
Edwards medium bore slides fit large bore Bach bells essentially 100%, and Shires medium/large bells quite well (threads are not 100% but it works on every combo I’ve tried).
Shires medium slides likewise essentially fit large bore Bach bells and Edwards medium/large bells. Sometimes the threads on the bell side don’t work very well with Shires slides on these brands and they are a little wobbly. About 25% of the combinations I’ve tried like this have that issue.
Yamaha medium bore slides are interchangeable with other Yamaha models in the medium bore range (356, 446, 630,645,646, others probably). Also the medium slides technically fit several large bore bells but can be kind of loose (I was able to use a 548 bell on a 356 slide).
Bach 36 slides will weirdly fit small bore shires. Or at least I had one that did. The length will probably be weird and not work though. Mine was super flat.
Conn medium bores… sometimes fit other conns. The 88 medium bore slide should fit large bore Getzen bells. No idea about length. Likewise, I would be surprised if medium bore Getzen slides wouldn’t work on an 88 but I’ve never tried it.

Re: Medium bore compatibility
Medium bore Conns (32h, 79h, 78h) and Yamahas (356, 455, 456...) fit together but don't thread together. My regular quintet horn is a 32h bell with a 455 slide. Works well enough to use.
Conn 88h 525 slide and the 78/79h slides are not compatible.

Re: Medium bore compatibility
Conn 79H bell and slide mate together just fine - but not with anything else that I have found.

Thank you!
And out of curiosity: how about Rath, if one should run into a R3 (if that is the medium model)?

Re: Medium bore compatibility
Might be compatible with an R4, but nothing outside Rath if it even does that.
