Favorite chair for playing?

I did a cursory search for "chair" and didn't find it. Any recommendations for a good set of chairs for my studio? I also have some young tuba students if it matters.

Wenger makes some nice furniture. Seems to be pretty common in High School Band Rooms. They also make a special chair that holds a Sousaphone.

How many chairs do you think you will need? You might be able to make do with some of the old style Bridge Set chairs (the sturdy wooden ones) that you can find at Goodwill for around $3-5 each.

Two should suffice. One for myself and one for the students.

I’ve had good luck with used office waiting room chairs.

I try a more serious answer:

Wenger. Both the Nota series and standard (not student) series are outstanding chairs for making music in. They are also way better than office desk chairs for sitting at a computer.

The Nota chairs are the best though, especially the area for your back.

Wenger Chairs get my vote.....the student and musician (professional) lines both hold up well. Be careful of Wenger imitations. Hood College (Frederick, Maryland) ordered some faux Wenger chairs against my advice. Now that they are about 8 years old, some of them have legs that are bending.....not good.

If you choose Wenger chairs, also be very aware of the chair height. They have quite a few choices. I am 6' 1" and the 18.5" Wenger chair works well for me, but it is too tall for many high school students. Most high school students fit well in a 17.5" chair, but those are definitely too tall for many students is grades 4-8. Choose your chair height carefully (you might need two or three sizes) to match your clientele.
