I have a vintage yamaha bass trombone with a slide that has definetly seen better says. It has all sorts of discoloring and a few small dents. It moves ok with lube but it onle last a few mins and after it becomes very rough. Would it be worth it to fix or should I just get a new slide? If so, what slides will fit?

Dents? Fix.
Misalignment? Fix.
Discoloration? Need more info.
Blisters in the chrome plate on the inners? Replace

A new slide will cost about half the list price of a complete horn. You can do a lot of repairs for that kind of money.

Get the slide to a good trombone slide tech (probably not at your local music store) to restore the slide to its original fine condition. Evaluate, remove dents, align, chemical clean. $100+ Much cheaper than a replacement slide.

Let us know where you live – there may be such a good tech nearby.
