I’m looking at MK drawings website and they have kits for rebuilding slides, which i might have someone build me. a slide because it’s still probably cheaper than a new one and i get to choose everything about it. So, it has three options for the material for the outer slides and i was wondering if anyone has tried to mix and match. Like a nickel silver out and a yellow brass out with a nickel crook. I’ve never seen a mix and matches slide so there’s probably a reason for that, but i think it would sound interesting.

Inderbinen do that on their trombones.
I used to have a custom Rath R1 with Nickel upper/yellow brass lower.
Both of those horns are dual bore.
I found both to work very well.

Not sure about straight bore though!

Years ago I got Mick Rath to build me a slide with a yellow brass upper outer and red brass lower outer ..... thought I would get the best of both worlds....ended up with the worst. I wouldn't bother.

Bad choice

I flipped an Edwards 525/547 brass outers to nickle outers with MK pipes. It worked out perfect. I already had the 547/562 nickle slide so my expectations matched.
I do have a 525 and a 547 brass tube from the Edwards horn for sale.

Back to the original question: I've never seen an all nickel silver outer. Most folks seem to like pairing nickel silver outers with brass crooks (yellow or gold) or brass outers with nickel silver crook.

You sure this foray is really going to cost less than finding a new off-the-shelf slide? Or a used slide?

All Bach LT slides are full nickel. Pretty sure Shires does those too.

All Bach LT slides are full nickel. Pretty sure Shires does those too.

My LT 36 is nickel tubes with brass crook.

Rath small bores are all Nickel unless you special order!

my Bach LT 6 outer slide is all nickel, also my Bach shortened LT 36 outer slide on my alto.

My LT 42 was all nickel too. The original crook was a bit beat up and got out of round/flattened right where the waterkey spring plate is, so I had it changed to an MK bronze crook. Very good combo, it turned out.

I'd say you're the odd one out, I've never seen that on a Bach.

Did you buy it used or custom order that? Like Aidan said Bach LT slides are always all nickel. I've never seen one from the factory with a nickel outers and a yellow crook.

Bach LT slides are, as stated above, all nickel from the factory. Regular slides are all yellow, with nickel sleeves. Yellow tubes with nickel crook, or nickel tubes with yellow crook would be special order from Bach, or aftermarket

Yellow tube/nickel crook is the most commonly requested slide spec. for M&W customers. They work very well on 1 piece gold and red brass bells, and 2 piece bells of any material.

Gold tube with nickel crook also works well on 2 piece bells, but can suit some players on 1 piece yellow bells. Gold tube with yellow crook works very well on yellow bells of 1 and 2 piece type.

All yellow slides are popular on 1 piece yellow bells, however y/n slides are popular as well. All yellow can be a little "heavy" on 1 piece bells in gold or red brass.
