Slide crook for 1936 Olds Self Balancing

Post by Basie1955 »

I've got a great Olds Self Balancing from 1936 and there's the start of red rot ( I think ) appearing on the slide crook. This a dual bore .495 / .510 with a pretty narrow slide. Does anyone know of a crook that would fit this horn? Thanks!

Maybe find a trashed Recording. For some $$$ I bet a tech who makes crooks like Brad Close could custom make one. Other than that, if a hole appears, a patch would do it and maybe not be the worst thing

I do have a crook from a Recording and I'll check, but the Recording slide is quite a bit wider than this '36 horn. Thanks

I don’t know what the slide braces are like on the Self Balancing, but if it’s not too extreme they could always be adjusted. I hate doing too much to cool old horns myself, but if it keeps it playable then sometimes it’s worth it.
