Adhesive Recommendations for Thayer Valve Bumpers.

Post by tromboninator4000 »

I have been suggested super glue but was wonder if there was a different adhesive that was not so messy and hard to clean up.

A properly sized bumper probably doesn't need any adhesive.

If you just want to make the bumper less likely to fall out, rubber cement would work well. Let it dry for a day; maybe with a little heat from a hair dryer. Excess can be removed with a pencil eraser.

Some versions of the thayer valve have less than a half circle for the bumper to rest in, so they pretty much need glue. Not sure why they made them that way.

A BIG peeve in my book!!! The recess SHOULD be "C" shaped with the ends curled in to contain the bumpers.
Too easy to cut corners, so to speak, and just mill them incorrectly!

If you must glue them in, use a rubber contact cement, the stupid glues will tend to make the rubber brittle after some time and also makes it hard to remove when the need replacing!
