I just got a nearly-new Bach 36 BO in a trade with another forum member. Since I spend way too much time reading this site, I guess my perception of new Bach horns has been skewed my the many disparaging remarks I have read on here about the build quality of post-strike Bachs. I can't speak for every new Bach, but this one is fantastic. I have had it a month and have lubed the slide once. Yes - once. And not because it really needed it. It is the smoothest slide I have ever played - easily as good or better than my Rath. And the sound is wonderful. Or at least as wonderful as this weekend warrior hack can make it.

That's good to hear.  The 36 is in my opinion the best design Bach ever made.  They're really great horns.

I've also had that perception about post-strike Bachs.  Glad to hear a positive report.

Brian: is it "my" 36BO? Or another one from your hoard?

And I essentially got it for $1,200, as that is what the bass bone that I traded for it cost me.

I still have that 36.  It's an amazing horn.  I now have two 36s.

I would like to try a few of the new ones to see how they play.
Incidentally, I think you have quite a lot of horns now, too. ^_^
