Get the seller to re-list it as a ten day auction. Put you shires up for seven.  Then pray.

When ever I see a real nice (expensive) bone on ebay I feel like I need to sell three of the ones I have before I commit to buy a two thousand dollar plus horn on ebay.  YIKES!

Too bad its not an 8 or a 6.  I would seriously liquidate and upgrade.

It is a model 7 which is a .500 bore with an "F" attachment. It was made by Bob not Earl as evidenced by the serial number of 3065, and the round nickel crook. Great horn! And you are right the Sharks can smell a Williams in the water at 5000 miles. That is how far Hawaii is right Drew? Richard?

Gee, John.  I had to think about that one.  In fact, I looked it up and 5000 miles from Hawaii to New York is about right!  It's too bad my wallet's empty.  I'll have to let Drew get this one.   Image

I hate to say this Zac but 3 grand for a 7 might be optimistic.  I have a feeling that the winner will have to add at least another grand or two to win that puppy, but I guess time will tell.

It's interesting that these rare horns are popping up all of a sudden.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody tried a Shires .500 leadpipe in a William 6?  If so, which one worked best?

I'm using a Shires nickel #2 in mine.  It took some getting used to, but I like it a lot. It does brighten the horn up a bit, but it centers a little more than it does with a brass pipe.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info.  It appears that not many have tried Shires pipes in their Williamses.  I'm going to have a Herrick pipe copied by Chuck McAlexander at Brass Lab.  When Chuck sends me the copy, he's also going to send me, at my request, some of his own leadpipes to try.  So then I wondered how Shires pipes work in a 6.  I may have to try some one of these days.    Image

John's right.  This leadpipe thing is really playing with my mind.   Image Image Image

Looks like I just bought one, but don't know what model it is yet. Early one? Older one??

Should have it in hand in a week or so. Right now, a relative has it out of state - they picked it up for me today.

Here's some pics of my Williams. I won't have it in hand for a week or so, but my niece picked it up for me near her home in Fla (I spotted it on the internet).

Anyone know what model it is??   Image

Single brace on tuning slide (with counter weight), instead of 2 braces that I normally see on Williams horns... Thoughts?

I'd be ashamed to say. Apparently the old man and woman bought it sometime ago at a yard sale (of all places). They kept it for a good while (unused), and decided to get it out of there way. I pretty much stole it, for the price they were asking. The one DJ bought was high dollar, compared to what I paid (if that tells ya anything). But it found itself a good home now.  Image

Any info on model, is appreciated.

Wow!!!  Great score, tsmart!!!  From what I've heard, the Wallace Williams are great playing and sounding horns.  I think you'll have fun with it.   Image

Quote from: cozzagiorgi on Jan 07, 2010, 08:26AMSo Richard, what were your findings with the leadpipes?

Regarding the leadpipe for my new 6.  I hadn't sent the Herrick #2 pipe to Chuck McAlexander for copying yet because I had a bunch of performances to do in December.  Then on the day after the last concert, I pulled out my horn to practice and, just for the heck of it, I switched the leadpipes to one that I got from John Duda of Calicchio.  It wasn't one of his standard pipes and he just threw it in when I bought his two standard pipes, the 6 and the 66.  John said that he made it a long time ago and didn't remember anything about it but said I should see how I liked it.  I found that it was very free blowing and I also found that it was more open and bigger on the high register than the Herrick #2.  So now I'm wondering if I should even bother with copying the Herrick!  I'll switch back and forth a little more before making a final decision.

In other news, I finally got the Calicchio 8 from John just before Christmas.  The sound is awesome...  Huge!!!  Dark and very melodious.  But!!!  John cut the bell wrong and sent me an 8 1/8" bell instead of an 8 1/2".  He was aware of the mistake and told me he would make me an 8 1/2" as soon as possible, so I thought I'd wait for it before saying much more.  I'll be taking this horn to orchestra rehearsal on Tuesday night.  I'm curious to hear what the conductor thinks about it.   Image

Happy New Year, everybody.  I hope you all have a great one!!!   Image Image Image

Aloha,
Richard

Nice thread!

I'm the owner of a #4 and a #6,
the #4 is in good shape, the #6 in fantastic shape, looks like it's made yesterday . . .
The #4 is my main axe, just love this horn, never played anything like it.
The #4 has sn 84* (I should have a look, don't know for sure)
The #6 . . . . . should get it out of the basement . . .  Image
Therefore I'm thinking of selling the #6, this horn is just to good not to be played . . . .

==============

I remember a Williams Bass trumpet sold on eBay a few years ago, (now that is something else!)
anybody information on that one?

Thanks!
