Christmas CDs

It has been a few years since I have added to my Christmas music library. I am interested in trombone and brass ensembles, of any style, jazz, big band.

I also have some recorder & various native flute recordings that are very enjoyable.

I would like to add a few CDs this year.

What do you folks listen to?

Any suggestions are most welcomed.

It’s not new, but Carla Bley has a Christmas album called “Carla’s Christmas Carols” featuring herself and Steve Swallow with a brass quintet. Cool arrangements!

Bill Reichenbach's Trombone's LA Christmas CD is pretty great!

Listened to both CDs while writing Christmas cards to family and friends this afternoon. I can't recommend this music highly enough. Arranged and conducted by Bill Reichenbach, the ensemble playing (by a hoard of the best trombonists in the Los Angeles area) is beyond superb. Every TromboneChatnik should own this collection.

Better yet, all the proceeds go to the "Hearts of Music" fund (founded by the Reichenbachs), which supports under-insured musicians and their families experiencing health-related needs. Couldn't go to a better cause. Order a copy of the CDs. Make a donation.

Trombonist/arranger Ted Blumenthal's arrangements for big band, Adventures in Jazz Orchestra Celebrates Christmas

There are some rough edges from time constraints, but Ted's arrangements are terrific, like "We Three Kings" in 11/4.

The section was Bruce Bonvissuto, Scott Whitfield and myself. Ted plays trombone on a few selections also.
