Very cool, Björn, thanks for posting those pictures. Friction fit...
I like the little arrowheads on the ends of the tuning slide bead, or whatever you call that strip that's not usually there on trombones.

I will post some pics of my new williams 6 pretty soon here.

Does anyone know what kind of trombone this is? The reason I posted it here was because Willaims have funny looking braces. Haven't seen a williams that has a brace that looks like this one.

Man, those horns pictured above are like cars that you'd love to drive but could never insure. Like you're nervous taking it off the lot but if you can get it out in the open you can just LET LOOSE!

Nope, I don't own it. I met the previous owner on a trumpet forum and he sent me the pics. The previous owner didn't know much about the horn besides that it has a .443 bore. He sold it to Quinn the Eskimo whom still has it today.

There's got to be some pretty bad karma accumulated over time by hoarding Williams horns and letting them sit in cases.

Yeah, I agree too. These horns are unique and were meant to be used! I play my model 4 everyday and my model 6 is my alternate horn and is played a few times a week. Anyone else who has pictures of their Williams horns? Thanks, / Björn

The Minick is being held by Jeff Tower who Lives in Hemet. He won the Alternate trombone chair in the Chicago Symphony and turned it down...

that comes out to about 2,926.64 USD. the US dollar is weak against the Yen right now. i asked my friend if it said where the horn was made but sadly it didn't. i asked her if she could contact the seller of the horn and see if she could find out any info about it. i'll post up when i hear back from her.

Got to play Richard Tadaki's 6 this morning at John Sandhagen's shop. It is a really nice horn. Typical dark Wm's sound, very responsive, good upper register (to the High "F"), open blow. I used by Herrick #2 pipe, slide was tight, of course it is new and no lube on it yet. Great horn! I know he will really enjoy it!

I don't blame you. I almost want to get at least one more 6 to use as a backup to my backup so that I would never have to be without a 6 to play. But maybe that's going overboard.

No, I totally understand you. It is the Wife that will never understand unless she plays the trombone. It is probably better to have a backup Williams for a Backup than to have a Backup Mark VI for a backup Saxophone for your main Sax...

The Trombone (even Williams) are cheaper than others which gives us an excuse to buy more than we actually need

okay, great news!!!!

so tonight was our first rehearsal for this show i'm playing in called Barnum. anyways, i got there a little early and had my horns setup and whatnot. anyways, this older gentleman comes in and the first thing he says is "i've never seen a Williams with TIS before". my mouth literally dropped. i've never met any other trombonist in person that knows what a Williams is. so he sits down and we start talking about the horn and stuff. then he opens up his case and what do i see?? a Burbank Model 6!!!!! i asked him excitedly if that was a Model 6 and he said, "oh yeah, i forgot to mention that i have a Model 6". haha, i just had this really big smile on my face when he said that. this guy is really really old. he fell asleep numerous times during rehersal!! me and the guy playing 3rd had to keep tapping his shoulder so he'd wake up lol!

but this guy really knew his stuff. he knew that Earl started off with Spike Wallace and that Spike was also the President of the 416? or whatever it was. he also knew that after LA, Earl moved to his shop to Burbank and when he passed away that his son took over. he also knew that the son sold the company to Jay Armstrong in Tennessee, and then Jay selling it to Duda. well, he didn't remember Duda's name, but he did remember that it was Calicchio. i asked him if he had any other Williams and he does! he has a Tennessee/Calicchio Model 6. he bought it while visiting the NAMM? show. the bell is marked Earl Williams Donelson, Tennessee, but also on the bell flare i think he said it said Calacchio or something like that. he's not on the forum and i really doubt he uses his computer much given his age, so i was blown away when he was telling me all this Williams history!

also, he said that he got his horn after Earl's death and that Bob built his horn. the only stamping on the bell says "Earl Williams".

That would be Dick Bowman.... he moves between there and the mainland. Really lovely guy. He has a Rath contrabass !!!! A true gentleman. Please send him my very best wishes... it's ages since I've heard from him. I remember being in a restaurant with him in New Orleans... he looked at the menu and said 'Meatloaf, huh !... I don't eat that in restaurants because I don't know what's in it.... don't eat it at home either... because I DO know what's in it'.
His 6 is a very nice horn.

I figured it was Dick Bowman. He bought a Conn 12H from me a couple of years ago and we talked on the phone. He really knows his stuff when it comes to the Williams horns.

He's a bit of a Williams heretic though. From what I recall, he claims his Calicchio plays better than his Williams 6.

I played a friend's Calicchio 6 and I have to admit that maybe it was more responsive than my Burbank. Maybe.

So Dick has a Calicchio 6 besides his Burbank 6? It seem like Williams trombones are piling up here in Hawaii!!!
