Shires bell brush finish

Post by SwissTbone »

Anyone did aftermarket satin or brush finish to their shires bell? How did the engraving turn out after the work?

I would be interested in pics.

The key is to stay away from the engraving when doing the satin finish!!

For a horn of that value, I'd have it done professionally, maybe with light bead blasting. Or they could mask off the engraved areas.

Honestly I wouldn't do it.

Why would you want to do that ?
Is the existing lacquer in bad shape ?

I just did one and brushed right over the engraving, it looks fine no reason to avoid it.

Because it looks cool! I guess? I would just see if i could trade with someone who had the same bell. I'm also not big on getting trombones for looks.

Yeah right now it looks a little worn and I like the look of a brushed finish.
