Still debating on what slide to pair with my Olds P-24G bell section. I thought I had decided on an Edwards all-nickel 0.547/0.562 slide but then I remembered that I still had most of an Olds O-15 Opera slide stashed away. The slide is complete other than the bottom 0.554" inner slide tube is broken in 2 and needs to be replaced.
What are my options?
Buy/find a replacement 0.554" tube (is this something MK Drawing would do?)?
Replace the bottom slide tubes with 0.562" inner and outer? I dont' know if this is even possible if I kept the original cork barrels and crook.
Replace just the inner slide tube with a close replacement. Don't some Yamaha horns come with 0.551" inners? Would that create too much of a gap (air leaks)?

Different companies used different wall thicknesses for their stockings, so matching the inner slide bore does not necessarily equate to matching the stocking OD - and the stocking OD is the critical dimension if you're trying replace just the inner(s).
Check the Allied catalog and see what it lists as a replacement tube. You might just be pleasantly surprised by what you find...

Why use the oversized tenor tubes?
Shouldn't be too hard to find an all nickel bass slide from another brand and retrofit it to your P24G bell section.
Even though those horns have 9" bells they're true basses. Just with the world's second least ergonomic trigger setup haha. Holton's glantz bar squeaks out first place for least ergonomic trigger setup by a nose.

I am also on the thought process of a whole new slide. 547-62 will probably sound closer to original than .562 straight, but the. 562 with a 9 inch bell would be really nice!

Re: Source for 0.554" inner slide tube?
Thanks for the comment. If I was a full-time trombonist with the practice time to build decent breath support I would get a bass slide. I'm just a casual player.
I've had a 'full-sized' bass (Kanstul) and a slightly smaller bass (Duo Gravis) in the past and didn't have the breath support for either so I sold them. I play regularly with a 30-40 member small orchestra to accompany a 350+ voice choir. Lots of exposed playing. I painfully recall from a few seasons back, several moments with my 'big' equipment where I didn't have the air for an 8-count cressendo to fortissimo that the music called for.
I was lucky to find the P-24G bell section for around $300 (missing the slide receiver) that is perfect for me as a 'small bass'. This season I've been playing the bass trombone parts on my Getzen 3047AFR (large bore tenor w/axial) and, while I can definitely blast away, it's not the bridge between the other trombones and the tuba it's supposed to be. While the P-24G originally came with a bass slide, I'm looking to match the all-nickel construction but downsize the bore to suit my abilities.
Hopefully it's turns out okay in the end.

You should double check the measurements (I'm not entirely sure the O-25 used the same inners as the O-15/O-23), but this would probably work:
http://www.jlsmithco.com/tubing-and-pip ... b-and-olds
Since you're replacing your lower tube, that would give you a .554"/.562" dual bore.

Thanks. I'll check the O.D. with my digital calipers tonight.JohnL wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 12:13 pm You should double check the measurements (I'm not entirely sure the O-25 used the same inners as the O-15/O-23), but this would probably work:
