Hi all,
I have a DE shank stamped G8 2004 CONN S
I'm interested as to what does the "S" stand for if anything? short, small, shank?
I do actually have a G8 2017 CONN C to compare, and this although being the same length as the "S" sticks out further supporting an, S for smaller theory....
Just curious, the "S" is the nicer playing for me.
Kind regards,
Hamo.

If the S sticks out further, wouldn't it be bigger?

CONN or C means it's the Conn taper. I usually stamp both, with a C under the number so you can see it easily and not mix it up with a regular taper shank.
S means it's a little smaller than usual, to go in farther. Some horns play better that way.
L would mean a little larger than normal, which is for worn receivers.
I can do the S and L versions (or any variation) on any shank. Not a big deal and I don't charge extra for it.

Doug is the length on these S and L shanks different or is it just the outside taper?

They are the same overall length.
