Bass Bone Pixie Mute?

Post by aaronhynds »

As my title implies, I'm curious to know--is there such at thing as a bass trombone-sized pixie mute? All I can find is the tenor trombone one, and based on how the mute works, I don't imagine that adding oversized corks would make it work all that well in a bass bone.

Use a small tenor trombone straight (like the aluminum Harmon straight) as a Pixie for bass. I've never seen a need for one, though.

Ooh, great idea! I'll try that! And this is for a new commission that I'm working on--the composer has previously written for solo tenor trombone and really enjoyed the sound combination of pixie mute+plunger, so I was curious about the similar method for bass bone. Long story short: it's for new music stuff!

BG has a good idea. Maybe one of the above could work. You’ll still be playing long positions. Or pulling tuning slide a mile. And please remind composer bass bone would not have full range. And normal plunger naught not be deep enough. Might be a rare case where a bass sized H&B tuxedo plunger is better for depth for bass bone.
