Glenn Miller as trombone soloist?

Post by yeodoug »

Hello all,

I'd like to know if anyone on the forum has information about whether Glenn Miller performed as trombone soloist with his civilian band (1938-1942) or Army Air Force Band (1942-1944). If so, I'd love to know if there are recordings of his soloing, titles, labels, dates, etc.

Many thanks,

-DY

Hi Doug

The only one I remembered Glenn Miller soloing on was the following. Two different places. Thanks, Bob

Thanks very much. I had not heard this before and am very glad to hear it. I did find this, "My Blue Heaven," from a radio broadcast. More expansive solo playing. I'd love to know if there are any more.

There's a trombone solo in Sold American, but the 78 label doesn't say if it was Miller or someone else, and neither do the notes at Archive.org. This might require tracking down the documentation from the recording company. I have a friend who is an expert in music of this era, though - he probably knows exactly where to point you.
