Value of a late 50s 2B Silversonic?
A friend is selling her Dad’s old horn. Good condition. Any ideas of the value?

Variable from a few hundred to a few thousand, depending on condition. My opinion, anyway.

Silversonic is a little more valuable than regular brass, but what you get depends very much on the condition of the horn. If it is in very good condition I think you could get $1500 to $1800, if you find the right buyer but I doubt you could get more. If it has a lot of scratches or loss of plating it would be less valuable, and if the slide has some problems you could probably only get half of that value.

It seems to me that part of the issue is that there are not very many people playing small bore horns. A few HS/college students and the few remaining studio/commercial pros. And when you can pick up a nice 6H or 3B for $750...

It is probably a professional or a music college student you could sell to at the higher price. The highest price would be to a collector and only if it is in really mint condition. You could try ebay and sell outside US, but at the moment the dollar has become so expensive to us in Europe. The years 2013 and 2014 I bought a lot of ebay horns but since then the dollar has raised by 50%. I don't think I will buy another horn for years to come from US, not at current prices.

The Euro has remained just above a US dollar. How has the Swedish Kroner done against the Euro?

$1 was about 6.50 kr when I bought my horns and now it is 9.07 kr a 38% raise, so not yet 50% but there has also been a fee added on all shipping outside Europe. It was to administer the customs on the huge imports of all cheap Chinese electronics that was under the radar. The fee is so big it is no point to order cheep from China anymore.
I remember 1 EURO was around 9 kr because I bought from Germany too, now it is over 10 kr.
It seems the Swedish krona is what has lost against both the dollar and the EURO, but more to the dollar, it is very strong at the moment.

Bach5G is in the US, so exchange rates aren't relevant. That said, I played a 2B on lead in a big band so this might be a great horn for him.

Actually I am in Canada so there is an exchange rate and a border involved. The USD has gone from about $1.22 to $1.36 over the past year. So, the USD is up about 11%.
I noted a very similar horn listed on the local CL for $2200, but it’s been there for a couple of months.
