I’ve got an early 70’s King 3B Concert that needs some professional attention. The bell is in great shape, and the slide is decent, but the previous owner(s) have wrecked the leadpipe and every mouthpiece that I’ve tried in it wobbles pretty badly. I don’t know how modern 3B leadpipes compare to the vintage ones, but I’ve read good things about the Kanstul H8. Assuming my tech can get the lead pipe out, I have a couple of questions and I’m hoping someone might be able share their insight or experience.
-What leadpipes have you tried in an older 3B that you liked?
-Should I have the replacement made removable, or have it soldered in?

Re: King 3B replacement leadpipe
Does anyone have experience with leadpipes in a 3B?

Re: King 3B replacement leadpipe
Start with pulling the old pipe & see what's actually wrong with it! Might just need to be reformed.
THEN, try as many lead pipes as you can find and play them in actual playing situations! This is the only real way to figure out which one will work for you.
THEN decide if you want to keep it loose or have it soldered in.
