Finding the right tool for the job

I`m playing a new re-orchestrated version of the musical "Ragtime" for the next month. It`s a 9 piece band and the majority of the time we are playing at mf to mp to p. The problem being I needed a horn that spoke quickly at these low volume levels and still produce a nice dark sound. I have 4 horns that are smaller so I tried mt Bach 16MG first and It was not working , Love the horn but it just felt "too big". 2) My Bach Lt12G. Close but sounded thin .
3) King 2B+ SS - Spoke really quickly but a bit too laser beamy. so FINALLY I tried my 4th horn , which I just got back. I loaned it to a friend . 1965 Bach 12 stanard weight slide, yellow bell and BAM !!! this was everything I was looking for . Sound deep & dark at the low volume levels and spoke quickly. The conductor even remarked on the sound.
Anyone else find themselves in similar situations?

Hated to give it back. Great horn!! Can't wait to get my "new" 6H!
