FS/WTT: Conn 88h Artist Symphony

Post by ttf_Trombone Sam »

Hey guys, I'm looking to trade my 1981 Artist Symphony 88h for an 8h of any era. This horn belonged to Achilles Liarmakopoulos, who I bought it from in 2015. There's nothing really wrong with this horn, I just prefer horns without the trigger.

This specific 88h had a Bach rotor lever installed before I purchased it, probably because a previous owner didn't like dealing with the string linkage. The whole mechanism is quiet when lubed properly, I've run out of rotor oil though so it's currently a little dry.

The slide action is about a 7.5/10. There are no slow spots or hiccups, but in 7th position there's a tiny bit of noise due to some plating wear on the stockings. There are a couple dents only on the mouthpiece-side inner, which haven't affected my playing on it. The original bumper springs are still installed, since that's how I prefer it, but it's super easy for a tech to replace them with felt if you want. The serial number is partially pitted, but it's HD170XXX (the rest is visible in the pictures).

Apart from the hand grip, the lacquer on both the bell and slide are in great shape, with only scratches here and there, and I had all major dents taken out at Dillon about a year and a half ago. There are a couple of dents in the slide crook, but they don't affect the sound negatively at all. All other dings left in the horn other than the ones already mentioned are so small that you won't notice most of them.

I love the warm, centered tone I get from this 88, and I think someone else could really appreciate it more than me.

If you don't have an 8h to trade and want to buy the horn, I can do $950 shipped, but don't be afraid to make an offer. Comes in a UMI case in great shape.

It’s on ebay now, but I’ll still listen to offers!! Outside eBay would work better in everyone’s favor, I think.
