Greg Black 5.5 New York .295" star shank

Post by ttf_PG trombone »

I recently acquired this piece and with the wider than usual throat(.295" instead of the standard .282"), the piece isn't working for me. I want to end up with a standard 5.5 New York, but would sell this piece for $130 or swap if anyone is interested. Would work really well for someone with lots of air to throw. The piece is in basically new condition with minor wear.

I might be interested in purchasing. I have a NY 5.5 and like the piece a lot. Sometimes i feel that it is too bright/cutting for a small group, which the larger throat might help with. Also, I occasionally play bass bone parts with my 42 and the larger throat might help with that too. What specifically wasn't working for you? I would not want to trade though as I do like my 5.5 for most of my playing.

Hey PG,

I Have a Greg Black 4.5GSD which is very similar to the New York 5.25 I think. PM me if you're interested in a trade.

Sorry, I'm really looking for just the standard 5.5 NY.

It sounds like it would be a good fit for what you are looking for. Basically, with that bigger throat I am working a little too hard in my high register, but I will say that my pedals and medium register sound great on this piece because of the larger throat. I completely understand that you wouldn't be into doing a trade, but would be glad to sell to you.
