.525 leadpipes?

Shires, Edwards, Brass Ark.

Any others out there? Did one strike you as exceptional?

I have played both Edwards and Shires .525 slides.

In my Shires, I use yellow brass 2.5 M (small shank) and MT (large shank) pipes. I have also tried a bunch of Shires M and MT pipes that I think are gold brass (they have a G included in the designation). A 2 in both sizes, 3 in both sizes, and an unmarked pipe that feels very similar to the 2.5 MT pipe. Out of all of those, I still prefer the 2.5 M and MT pipes, though the unmarked pipe is very similar, hence my thinking that it really is a 2.5. I also have the Shires RS MT pipe, and while nice enough, I just like the 2.5 better.

In my Edwards, I use a SS2 pipe, but have also used the Edwards 1, 2, and 3 brass pipes.

The Shires pipes will not fit in the Edwards slide, but the Edwards fit in the Shires (with the use of Instrument Innovations FT/CT adapters). I have tried the SS pipe in my Shires, and while OK, I didn't find it as suitable for me as the Shires 2.5 pipe. Since I have the unmarked Shires pipe described above, I was thinking of having some of the metal taken off to make it fit the Edwards slide.

I have not tried Brass Ark .525 pipes, but I have a MV50 drawn nickel-silver pipe that I use on bass that I love! I had to wait a long time to get it, but it was well worth it. If I was dissatisfied with my current .525 options, I would definitely look at those offerings. These are just my experiences though, everyone will be different.

Conn makes their H, T and X leadpipes for ths SL2525 and SL2547 handslides.

I actually use one on my franken 525/547 slide. One of the small receivers. I bought it used from someone and I need to look back through my records to see what it is because it works perfectly on the setup. They're also very reasonably priced, though I don't know the degree to which they are available nor if they are consistent. Adding a Shires collar to it ended up costing me like $30 incl. parts.

I use either the Edwards 2 or 3 in my (Edwards) .525/.547 horn. The 1 works ok but feels tighter and brighter, so I rarely use that one except for jazzy things.

I have a 3B+ pipe that I like a lot, and also a pipe from a 78H that I like a lot too. I use them in a custom .525 slide made for my Arrowhead Williams "L" model.

M&K are making some really fine .525 pipes. In 2 different tapers, and a number of material options. Very well made, too. I've been play testing some for them for a decent period of time now and am very happy with them.

Sorry for the long wait time. There was a big backlog for awhile. I have gotten a lot more caught up on making the pipes, so in the future the wait time should be much better.

Blowero/Brad/Brass Ark/Brass Medic made me a MV36 in drawn nickel that to me was the final piece of the puzzle on my 525/547 Conn. It made the whole thing so much better. I am a fan of Brad's work in general so I might be biased, but it's worth a try.

For Conn variations, Hickey's stocks them and for some reason .525" pipes are priced much lower than other sizes ($29.95-39.95). Not sure why. H and T seem to be in stock right now.

No, Conn threads are compatible with Edwards/Getzen & Greenhoe AFAIK. They will screw in pretty far though and if you get one of the Instruement Innovations adapters won't wobble. I used an Edwards leadpipe on a Shires slide for a few months and then swapped out the receiver on the pipe and didn't notice all that much of a difference. Blow was basically identical and the pitch was only one or two cents sharper. Well within my margin of error

Just want to clarify. The orders for leadpipes are still faster than I can make them, so there is still a wait time, but it's a shorter wait time than it was before. I think they are worth waiting for.
