My student has a Bach 42 from the 90's and doesn't know much about it, but sounds great on it. He thinks it might be an enlarged rotor, and it kind of looks like that. I've never seen this valve before. Anyone know what this is?

Bart Claessens, principal trombone of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Amsterdam), plays a Bach 42KGC and sounds awesome. However, my first large bore was a LT42KG (non convertible) from mid 90's and I was never too happy with it... Although I still have this amazing 42G bell flare mounted on a Brad Close straight open neckpipe.
