Gabe was acting-I was first sub. Long story but Covid and many other factors delayed the audition.

Bruce I live in West Hartford, CT. YES I commuted to NYC for 21 years playing Phantom. LOL
HSO also has a very nice "home stay" program for musicians who live outside of the Hartford area, and there are many.

I knew Ed very well and subbed for him in his later years when he wasn't feeling his best. I even help his executor sell his equipment once he passed. He was a very sweet man.

The last time I saw him was at a Hartford Symphony Principal audition in my first year of school in NYC - 4 or 5 of us piled in a car and drove up to the audition (my first professional audition). Ed found me afterwards, and was just so happy about the progress I had made that year - a really fond memory for me. I also remember what was the best lesson anyone ever taught me - I had just taken my first college audition (Hartt) and had found out that I got in, and then didn't practice over the course of the week after. I still had a couple of more auditions to prepare. I showed up to my lesson, and within a couple of minutes, he realized that I wasn't prepared and he kicked me out and told me not to come back until I practiced, and reminded me that the next 2 auditions would be even more difficult. A really great "tough love" moment, that I never forgot!

Small world, Jim. Two of my first teachers used to sub with HSO, Steven Jackson and Wayne Johnson. Studied with them from 4th thru 7th grades. (then my family moved to TX)
