This thread is dead before it even begins
I can't imagine this being interesting to many people, but I'm posting it anyway. LOL! It's just another tiny piece of trombone history and a small connection to my past.
This is the AFM recording contract for Herb Alpert's album, "A Taste Of Honey" from 1965. This was my father's favorite album when it came out. I heard it over and over.
It turns out that my old trombone teacher, Roy Main, played on the album. You can see his name right below Herb Alpert's.
So, unbeknownst to me, I was listening to Roy many years before I started studying with him. And of all the things we discussed, I don't recall Roy ever mentioning this gig to me.
I think a lot of you will also recognize the name just below Roy's. Lew McCreary was another monster player, equally at home on bass and tenor trombone, so I don't know which he played on this album, or perhaps both.
Just a bit of trombone trivia, but after finding this contract I thought one or two of you might like to see it as a tiny bit of trombone history. Or not.

Interesting that Bob Edmondson, long time trombonist for the TJB is not listed.

Also, interesting is that Herb Alpert is under contract to himself as co-owner/co-founder of A&M records with Jerry Ross.

Cool!
Interesting to see how intricate the recording and participation deals were handled, and a nice connection to your past.

Years back (quite a few of them, many of the parties are now deceased) our church organist came across a Tijuana Brass album, and recognized Herb Alpert on the cover.
He (the organist) had been the keyboard player with an Army band that included Herb Alpert on trumpet. But not being interested in anything after Bach, he had no idea Herb now had a band and was selling records. He seemed quite surprised telling me the story.

I played in that same Army band, the Sixth Army Band at the Presidio of San Francisco. Alpert was a little before my time, though. I spent almost two years there, between the Navy music school and my assignment to the multi-agency NORAD Command "Cavalcade of Music" Band.timothy42b wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 7:45 am Years back (quite a few of them, many of the parties are now deceased) our church organist came across a Tijuana Brass album, and recognized Herb Alpert on the cover.

I'm curious about:
"Wages as agreed: SCALE".
Was payment based just on the time spent on the recording session, or was there any additional payment based on the success of the record?

Spaces to enter only 6 tracks to record? Seems a little short sighted.
