Hi all
I’ve read what I could find on our forum but didn’t see something that answers this question:
For any of you who had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, how long did you have to wait til you could play again?
I’m working with my orthopedic Dr. but haven’t heard back yet from him. Besides, playing trombone is unlike many other activities that use arms and hands, so thought some anecdotal evidence would be good. What has been your experience for recovery? (By the way, I already know this will vary between individuals and the size horn, etc. I just want to hear a little to get an overall picture)
Ps. I play standard tenor only— not Bass bone.

Re: Carpal tunnel surgery recovery
I did surgery on a "trigger finger" in the left hand. It's not exactly the same, but I think I should have waited a bit longer than the doctor suggested because the scar is now rather evident and the tissue around the scar is thick. The stress of holding a heavy horn is more than any doctor can imagine. I think you should add a couple of weeks to whatever your doctor suggest just to be on the safe side if it's your left hand.
