Anyone using Conn slide oil?

Post by sirisobhakya »

I encountered it for the first time in my life today. I smelled it many times before however, but I thought it is some kind of toilet cleaner. The oil STINKS.

Anyone using it? How do you cope with the smell?

Do not confuse this with Yamaha slide oil. This stuff is a very old product that we have all abandoned in favor of Pond's Cold Cream (and many newer lubes).

It has only one advantage: you can't use too much. This makes it good for kids who tend to glop tons of oil on the slide. Do that with a cream and the slide feels like it has a layer of peanut butter on it. Do that with a silicone and the slide lube becomes a significant expense (and the slide drags).

I believe what you are smelling is kerosene, which is used to dilute out the thick petroleum oil that is the lubricant.
