1/2 way through the first set of Mr Hunter in a quartet setting. Very small room (seating < 50?). Bass, drums and bass clarinet. Very tasteful, mostly standards so far. Lovely sound. Not missing saxes/trumpets. None of what Sam B used to call “stupid trombone tricks” (Sam had a way with words, didn’t he.).

Is it acceptable to approach the musicians in the break to tell them how much you enjoyed their playing? Or is that way uncool these days?

I "Discovered " Andy during the Covid lockdown when there were NO Gigs
Beautiful Sound, Great ideas and He`s been on that Rath for a long time and really knows the horn.
He`s also a wonderful Euphonium and Valve Trombone Player

I honestly don’t understand the lack of love/respect for valve trombone. That’s (the video) beautiful playing. He had a bass trumpet on stage with him last night but he didn’t get to it before I left after a couple of sets.

Lucky you! I've always loved Leslie Nielson, and I played on the soundtrack for Naked Gun movies, but I never got to meet him. Wish I had. I would have totally fangirled him, though.

Absolutely, it's perfectly acceptable to approach musicians during the break and let them know how much you enjoyed their playing! Musicians often appreciate hearing positive feedback, and it can make their performance even more rewarding. Just be genuine and respectful, and they’ll likely appreciate the connection. Have you had a chance to chat with any musicians after a show before?
