New Marcus Bonna Jazz Case

Post by ssking2b »

Has anyone tried the new Marcus Bonna Jazz case? It says it fits up to an 8-inch bell (Ther Horn Guys say that's too big, but 7.5 or 7.75 fits well). Also, they say it does not hold a horn with a valve. Supposedly it comes with a pouch for lead pipes that Velcro's into the lid between the slide tubes.

Any impressions of this case?

I have a Baby tenor case which is not much larger and fits up to… 8.75” I think. It’s shockingly compact. I don’t see much of a reason to go smaller because of how marginal the difference is and how much extra utility you get out of it

My 3b fits fine in the MB Jazz case. I like the case and it’s super slim. I also have a MB tenor case and think the Jazz case is not as nice. You definitely give some things up by having a compact case, but I don’t think there’s any other case I would prefer for my straight horns over the MB Jazz case.

And the case does not hold a valve. It’s specifically for straight horns with 8” bells and smaller.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have 3 "jazz" horns (bells under 8-inch) and I need a new case for whichever I play on a given day. I will be keeping a Woodwind Design carbon fiber horn stand in the bell, and only a mouthpiece, Yamaha Slide Lube, and a lead pipe brush in the case. One horn will have the Neotech hand grip with it...so I don't need a lot of room, only a little!

" I also have a MB tenor case and think the Jazz case is not as nice. " Is this because it's smaller inside with less storage space?

I have the cut bell version of the MB Jazz case, and it works well for my small bore with an 8" bell. Travels well, too - fits fine in most overhead compartments.

I have the Jazz case and like it. I play a Rath R2 and it fits well. I think Steve’s probably right about the 8” bell -my guess is an 8” will theoretically fit, but might be tighter than you would like. I don’t use my neotech on that horn, but it does fit in one of the compartments. I have the Hercules in bell stand it also fits fine.

The case has come in and I have used it for several days now after placing the movable pads in optimal positions for my XO 1632RGL-LT. The case is fantastic!I have no need for an F attachment, so this case is perfect. It has enough room to hold what I want to put in the case, including my woodwind design in-bell horn stand. I have a 3 piece rifle cleaning rod and slide-o-mix terry cloth sheath, along with a spit rag in the outer pocket.

When I do use an F attachment it is my Elkhart 88H which is in an SKB universal case.
