Bat Bag as a Mute/Accessory Bag?

I'm curious if anyone has tried this....My daughter plays softball and the backpack she uses has a large storage pouch (for helmet, glove, etc.) and compartments on the side to put bats in. It occurred to me that this might make a great trombone bag. I could put the trombone stand where the bats go and mutes in the large compartment. I've even found a few with laptop sleeves. Seems like an interesting option. I've been using a tool bag and it works, but I kind of like the backpack idea.

Thanks. I currently use the Menards version of that bag and it works well. It is even big enough to get my trombone stand in. (https://www.menards.com/main/tools/tool ... c-9186.htm)

What I don't like about it, is there really isn't a place for my iPad (with my music) other than at the bottom of the bag...which isn't really convenient and I worry about things spilling on it (water, oil, etc).

I guess I'm always on the look out for something better!

About 10 or 12 years ago I bought a cheap rolling duffle/bat bag a collapsible handle at my local Fred Meyer grocery store (a division of Kroger). It has room for a Hercules music stand, two trombone stands, and as many mutes as you need. There are no pockets inside, so I made some foam inserts to help keep things in place. The rolling part is what sold me: lugging a trombone and heavy bag with stands gets pretty tiring.

Been thinking this same thing, want a bat bag with a laptop sleeve as I have now gone digital… the rolling sounds pretty great, too. The bucket mouth bag is just getting too heavy for me. The shoulder strap doesn’t help much and it bangs into my case on my shoulder.

Major point here, though: Meijer’s is NOT a Kroger. It is so much better. Harrumph.

Sorry Andy, but Michigan-based Meijer ≠ Fred Meyer (based in Portland, Oregon).
Fred Meyer was indeed purchased by Kroger in 1998.

Bat bags for mutes and assorted accessories were common in the 90s around here. I used one. That was pre-tablet though.

I saw this one on Amazon. Unlike some of the other baseball bags, this one appears to have a large enough bat compartment to actually fit a trombone stand and a folding music stand. (Perhaps even my Desca "Presto" stand?)

Down side for me: I have separate mute bags (including stored accessories - but no tablet) for my bass and tenor trombones (different size mutes). Don't really want to purchase two of these baseball bags - they're pretty large.

I've been using (and loving) this BEAST of a drum hardware rolling bag by Ahead Armor for my rock band gig:

Arriving, it carries my heavy duty laptop stand, all my cowbells and tambourines, a lawn chair, a clip fan, my laptop/electronics backpack, a small cooler with beers if feeling thrifty/stealthy. Then empties AND my trombone case fit in it while we play. I carry a lot, and this thing is substantial enough to accommodate it with ease. Worth every penny when parked at the wrong end of a looong street fair.

Probably not for many ... and $300 ... but maybe you want to roll your hard case, and a folding stand, and a bone stand, and your mutes? I bet it'll work.

More generally, look into drum rolling hardware bags, and hockey bags, and rolling duffel luggage in addition to bat bags and tool bags. Wheels and a heavy zipper are key features for me. Extra pockets do nothing; put things in bags inside the bag. Get the load down to one trip, one or two items.

It’s the perfect shape for a trombone stand, music stand, couple of mutes etc. and though not a backpack, the shoulder strap is very handy. Solidly made and reasonably priced.

For me I can sum it up in one word….nope. When I put all my “stuff” and bass mutes in the bag it’s too disorganized. No dividers in main section so everything moves around. The pocket at the end is on the bottom so it is hard to get to. This bag will go to a friend’s grandson who plays baseball. I’m sure it’s good for that.
