Still trying to date my 88H

Post by sacfxdx »

I have seen "USA" markings but not "Made in USA" markings.

Anyone know when this was made?'

That horn is not from 1949, like the website list says (based on the serial you have in the old thread). It's the Eastlake engraving.

This Reddit has an image of a different with with the same engraving:

My guess is that it was made just prior to the move from Eastlake to Elkhart, before the new engraving. What does the linkage look like? If it's mechanical, it's a Gen II. The early 2000's ones just say "USA".

I looked at my 88HTCL that I use for marching and the bell says "Made in U.S.A." just like yours does. This one has the post-patent CL2000 valve with the floral pattern on the cap, instead of the patent pending version with the profile of CG Conn on it. The horn was procured 10 years ago, and would have been brand new (2014), but the SN is lower. I'm going to guess that yours was made in 2016-2017.

You'll be glad to know that, right up until this moment, I resisted the urge to respond to your thread title with a post saying:

"Maybe if you bought her something nice..."
