K&M trombone stand repair

Post by AtomicClock »

The rubber tip on my stand (K&M 14990) is starting to crumble. Any idea where to find a replacement? Is this a simple hardware store fix?

I don't have a K&M, but I used these for my wall hangers:

Maybe something similar of the right diameter for the K&M would work.

You can get K&M parts, though that might be easier in the EU than the US... otherwise, you just need an appropriately padded rubber end cap of 16mm or 5/8" ID.

Haven't had to do this on my K&M, but for my other stands I use cane tips. Hamiltons take 5/8" size.

It's surprising how much the world confuses rubber and plastic. PVC rubber? Really?

Well, I guess if you could find some 80 durometer (Shor A) PVC it could work. But most of the PVC I've seen is way too hard. :shuffle:

There are lots of rubbers and other elastomers that could be used; polyurethane in particular. Synthetic rubbers work great. This is one application where you don't need great wear resistance or chemical resistance; just a bit of compliancy.

I used a playmobil basket, but good to know that there are spare parts.
Beside that I changed to the hercules in bell stand, much more solid than the K&M.

No. The OTHER K&M; not the in-bell one.

I couldn't find any chair tips or cane protectors the right size in nearby stores, but this fits like a glove. Thanks.
