Hi all,
I just fixed up a Bach 42 with an instrument innovations rotor and corp era slide with bi-thread adapter, so it got me thinking of trying other leadpipes. I'm a big gear nerd so I've gone through tons of different stuff on my bass, but I'm just starting to practice tenor bone more and wasn't sure what the go-to pipes are.
I'm not going for any particular sound or playing style yet, just looking to try some stuff out for fun!

Starting point? A Shires, Bach, Conn, or Yamaha #2 (or whatever the middle of the 3 normally supplied pipes is).
What really seems popular in all kinds of symphonic bore horns is Brad Close's MV42. It's based on the leadpipe of a Mount Vernon instrument -- the ones we all seem to covet.

Reiterating the suggestion: I spend a good amount of time on the MK42 in nickel silver. It’s the right core/brilliance balance for me most of the time.
Brad can make his MV42 in (seamed, not drawn, IIRC) nickel silver, too.
