Sawday Brassark Model 50 Bass
Pretty chuffed with how this one turned out! Don Sawday and I just finished a very special bass trombone. We set out last year to work on a custom conversion of a vintage Corporation Bach 50 bass trombone. In the same idea of our tenor conversions, we embarked to create a modern playing bass trombone that captures the vintage Bach sound. We found a superb donor Corporation Bach 50B from the 1970s and set out on the task. Sourcing Open Flow valves from Germany (with bronze plates) and designing the wrap and parts for the instrument from scratch, this instrument is what we came up with. It has our bell voodoo treatment, custom slide crook and threaded lead pipe receiver. The slide has 4 new tubes, inners and outers, and is fast and smooth. All ferrules, valve wrap and braces were made for this instrument and assembled by Don's hands. We were able to keep the original vintage Bach 50 lead pipe intact and it is included with a threaded collar. The instrument was meticulously buffed and lacquered and looks new. This is likely the only bass trombone conversion we will do and caps the end of our conversion projects, a fitting end! A lucky player will have a lifelong companion with this special one of a kind bass trombone. Enjoy the photos!

Beautiful! I don't see how a Bach 50 could get any better than this!

What is your instrument?TheBoneRanger wrote: ↑Thu Nov 23, 2023 12:39 am Looks like the independent brother of my horn! Modern playability with classic character. I’m sure it’s going to make someone very happy.

That's an amazing product Noah. When you say this caps the end of your conversions, does that mean the Sawday horns are finished? Or just that no new ideas will be realized?
